If The Shoe Doesn't Fit...

Give it to a bigfooted BFH to break in, seems to be the rationale going around. And given that new juttis and mojris (quick reference: those curly-tipped shoes at Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter 08-09 show? Most people in India know them as mojris, and juttis aren't too far off from those in shape) tend to bite like no one's business, it's basically led to some very sore feet for me, even if the shoes are pretty and remind me of what Iff the genie wore in Haroun and the Sea of Stories*. But they're still less painful than heels, and really, truly pretty- watching the tips of the silver beaded pair I wore all through yesterday peeking out from under my jeans almost compensated for the shoebites. Not quite, though...
PS: Just a heads-up to anyone who's about to try these for the first time- they tend to let a lot of city gunk in through the sides. But that depends on specific pairs, really.

Thanks for giving some official terminology to the shoes... they do look like they'd give me sore feet sides but yes, definitely more wearable than stiletto heels...

They're pretty, but I'll stick to heels!

I love them! They're my idea of adventurous when I'm sick of plain ballet flats.

(And I loved 'Haroun and the Sea of stories', it's truly cool to come across someone who notices the clothes in what they read :) )

They had a huge moment in 2006 over here where everyone, and I mean everyone, was wearing them. They're pretty, but alas too sparkly for me!

Mmm I find khusa the most comfortable thing...I live in them in summer...blister-free..

aah yes, as meg says, I remember their little wave of bigness a couple of years back here - I had a nice cheapy pair but they were so uncomfy I gave up. But I would like a pair of the really OTT ones, with big twirly toes, to wear with all my anarkali/churidar suits for weddings!

I used to have a pair of these I'd just wear around the apartment or when I was doing laundry and had to run downstairs. They're definitely cute--I should try to find another pair.

Oooh, pretty! I want to break a pair in. McQueen's collection was one of my favorites...yet I forgot about it until now! Thanks for the reminder.

Susie: It's not really saying much, since most things are more wearable than stiletto heels :). And yes, they will give you sore feet. The last few days stand as proof of that..
Wendy: I can see your PoV, these do take some time to get used to because they're sewn a different way.
Fashionaddict: Where I am, they're so ubiquitous that they get annoying at times :). And I do tend to notice character costumes in my head when I read..glad to know I don't seem to be the only one who does that..
Meg: I didn't know that- it's easy to see how you'd get sick of the sight of them (I know I get that way at times).
Soph: Blister-free? Wow...I'm more given to flip-flops in the house, but I can see how the other kind would be nice too.
Headmistress: I think it's the cheap ones that bite worst, though I really think they ALL bite. But big, curly toes sound fantastic!
Ambika: They do sound like an interesting alternative to sandals, hmmm.
The Clothes Horse: I'd advise wearing socks while you break them in...that way, you can avoid the blisters.
