Belated, But Here Goes

...a very happy birthday to Sofia Coppola, director of some of my favourite films of all time and one of the very few people I unabashedly admire as a fashion icon, because her sense of what to wear (in a time of Rachel Zoes galore) is so completely her own, and, most importantly, for showing the world that intelligence and style can and do go hand in hand, and that women interested in fashion can be good at other things too.

I hated her after seeing Godfather III. But she really won my admiration and respect as a director. Still haven't seen Marie Antoinette though.

DIRECT QOUTE:
"...showing the world that intelligence and style can and do go hand in hand"

THIS IS RESPECTFULLY TRUE...

ADORE Sofia Coppola! Both as a style icon and a director. I loved Lost in Translation and have Marie Antoinette sitting in my DVD player right now. Waiting for the kids to go to bed so I can watch!

I'd be happy if I had even a quarter of her self-assurance by the time I'm in my thirties. And she's one of the very few Hollywood directors who has an excellent sense of how to make clothes and music work for her films (Marie Antoinette was the clearest example, but The Virgin Suicides and Lost In Translation would not have been the same without their soundtracks)
