Huh

So much for hope, I guess. The pictures from Biba are out, and all it looks like is as if they stuck the spring/summer dresses in a vat of grey dye and threw on a few random coats and jackets. Though I really do think I love that dress, the sleeves are adorable as is the flippy skirt and tie neck, and the shock of yellow in that black suit on the right isn't bad at all, but I just don't feel fired up or even interested in the rest of the collection- the two pictures here are what I thought were the best of the lot. While Marc Jacobs's collection might have sucked as far as the pointy shoulders and collars went (you could use one of his collars as an assault weapon, it was that sharp), at least it was good for the rest (hats, check. Gloves, check. Shoes, check. I'm not a big fan of bags so we can leave those out of the equation). And lovely yummy garnet-reds and purples, it all looked a bit like Prada/Miu Miu SS 2007 but I liked that. I'd wear the dress with the white ruffle at the collar any day. At least Biba's last collection had lovely shoes. This lot just bores me.

wow, a fashion blog in law school. hmmm...
and this really is the year of the fishnet (sorry golden pig)... you're the fourth person this year I've heard obsessing over those (and that includes only one of my own personalities)

So tell me...has the tunic-and-belt thingie caught on in India? I'm curious as to how fast fads spread.

[I thought liking bags and shoes was mandatory for girls!]

Puneet, Tanya and Yohan, welcome to my slightly spaz wannabe fashion blog.
@Puneet: I do really want fishnets, it's true. No clue how to get them though.
@Yohan: I'm not a bag fan, though I always appreciate a pretty shoe. And as far as I can see, people aren't really into belting up their kurtas or other tops here.

And as for general trendaholicness, I think India or at least its designers catch on to things about two years after the rest of the world. I remember 2003-04 as a year of really pretty vintage-looking hourglass-shaped dresses... the Indian lot just stuck that on the runway last year, with crap cutting and nothing called a decent fit at all. And that was on the models. The bubble hem, which first came out for Spring/Summer 2005, is just getting into some tony shops now- again, with crap cutting so whoever wears them will look ridiculous.
I hate to think of what they'll put out when they become aware of sack dresses, the leggings look bad enough.

well, at least you seem to be acquiring nice ballet flats... just saw the cutest suede moccassin-ish ones in milk chocolate with like a thick burnt-rose pink ribbon running through them. two sizes too small...kills me everytime.
