A Revision Of Opinion

I know Hilary Rhoda is supposed to be the new Brooke Shields a.k.a. Eyebrow Queen and all that, but methinks Behati Prinsloo looks well and truly awesome with hers.
To be absolutely frank, eyebrows and I have a strange relationship, which mainly consisted (and still does) of me hiding them under my fringe the way pre-Victorian unwed mothers used to hide their baby bumps under voluminous dresses and crushing stays, to the mental tune of I Really Wish It/They Weren't Visible Since It's Socially Unacceptable To Be In This State (pick: unwed and pregnant back then/bushy-browed in the late 90s and the approximately five years that followed): they're strong black caterpillary lines that just about avoid being a monobrow* and got me teased aplenty at school when they were visible. And given that there's that much of them, getting them shaped is a royal pain** and most of the time I was just dead scared I'd end up like the classmate who got her eyebrows threaded so often and so drastically that she ended up with a patch of blue skin around the outlines of her ultimately very skinny eyebrows where the little bitty hairs should have been. So basically, I'm rather glad I have them, even if me with visible eyebrows= not pretty. Though I'd love to test the bold black eyebrow line as seen at Dior Couture SS07 sometime, I have no idea what to do with an eyebrow pencil- I didn't quite get the concept of wanting thicker and darker eyebrows than the ones that come au naturel till maybe two years back and am still too scared to go to the threader's, so it'll be just me and my tweezers and a lot of fringe till then..

Hee hee. I am reminded of the character in the Simpson's called The Baby With One Eyebrow!

Good job not plucking your eyebrows. This may be a contentious opinion, but I hgave always marvelled at the literally painful things women to do look "good."

That woman has some GOOD EYEBROWS. Eww, I hate when the eyebrows are shaved off then painted back on. That's the worst.

I stopped threading the day the woman doing it drew blood. At least my tweezers are less painful...and too-thin eyebrows look scary.
And I agree about the eyebrow-shaving thing too, even if it was common practice during the Renaissance it's gross in modern times.

You know, many men don't notice such things as eyebrow shapes. Women obviously have other reasons for doing them...

A well shaped brow really really can change the look of a face for the better but a fringe does the job just as well! Mrs F x

I hate when eyebrows are tatooed on and then fade into a forever-present blue tint. Quite frightening it is.
I've had eyebrow issues as a little girl-I started plucking them myself when I was 11, so thank god there are few pictures of me as a hirsute-looking adolescent

I'm with you on the no-showing eyebrows thing...my eyebrows haven't seen the light of day since I was forced to wear an aliceband with my fringe pulled back.....

They're not bushy/thick perse.... just unkempt...I'm just too damn lazy to do anything about them....

Mrs F: I kind of agree, there aren't too many girls around me who wear fringes and I've had mine for so long I kind of feel like it's 'my look' :) And there's just something about it that plays up my eyes and yet discourages people from looking too closely at my face- odd, but I like it.

Teresa: tattooed on? I've yet to see anyone like that, but it sounds painful to say the least of it.

Susie: You said it... I feel naked-faced when my fringe is pulled back.

Yes, you are right, Francesca was only 22 when she died.

I was scared of going to the threader's too. But after reading a large article about eyebrows in Vogue, I knew what I wanted, and I explained the beautician the best I could. Now I am happy with them. She respected the natural form of my eyebrows.

Trouble is, threaders here don't seem to understand that there is a concept called 'eyebrows that are too thin'. Their job basically consists of taking off what feels like 75% of my eyebrow hair, while blaming ME for being hairy in the first place! I may put up with pain, but certainly not with being insulted. And I still think me, my tweezers and a hand mirror do much better when the old forehead has to see sunlight..

Whilst my own eyebrows have also been hidden under a fringe for some time, I have thick eyebrows too - and I love them. I do shape them and keep them neat, but I have deliberately kept them thick. I used to tweeze them into thin-ish arches when I was younger. My eyebrow heroin had been Sherilyn Fenn in Twin Peaks - oh how I wanted that severe arch!
