Pleated skirts are among my greatest sartorial bogeymen- I spent the better part of thirteen years in them for school and got really sick and tired of anything that looked even vaguely like uniform, but lately I've been missing the swinginess of my old P.E. skirts, and when I tried on my cousin's skirt (she's seventeen and goes to the same school as I did), it actually didn't look half bad. Which is a relief, because I'm mildly tired of pencil-shaped, restrictive things, and my beloved old blue ankle-length skirt from the Tibetan market in Bangalore has been nearly worn to death. Also, I suspect I might just be better at avoiding boredom (and overt schoolgirliness) now than five years ago: also, they don't have to be schoolgirly- I certainly shan't be wearing them with uniform-esque things, and I really want some pleat-edges to fiddle with when I'm sitting down (something I did almost all the time in school)..

I love that, "I really want some pleat edges to fiddle with when I'm sitting down."
these are going to look super girly with double strapped mary janes! (:
Oooh I love pleated skirts! But I've always gone to public school, so I've never been FORCED to wear them, which would certainly detract from their appeal.
i love anything & everything with pleats because they are so classic and feminine. but, i never had to wear a uniform.
I really enjoy skirts with this type of pleating.
Pleats pleats pleats! I'm into all kinds of pleats really....
Pleats please! The second one is fantastic because it has a double illusion...
I love pleated skirts, but I fear wearing them, if the pleats are even bit smaller :(
i also had to wear pleats for school but i didnt mind them as much as having to wear this sailor-top with it---my next school doesnt have a uniform though thank god for that!
I still need to be convinced about pleated skirts...!
I often find myself reverting back to pleats, i think it's because after wearing them for so long in school one cant help but have a soft spot for them. that being said my school uniform was awful! Added you to my blog roll.x
Riz: that's exactly what I used to do all the time in school- fiddle with my skirt! The pleats were like my worry beads or something..
Stephie: There's no way I'm going to wear Mary Janes with a pleated skirt- that's basically my uniform! But it would be cute if someone tried it..
Maddy: I reckon I'll also be on the lookout for some mildly more grown-up looking pleats, since my cousin won't be very happy if I actually steal her school skirt :) Though I won't be wearing it like my uniform..
The Clothes Horse: Unfortunately, I can't wear my skirts that short because I'll just look like a sad wannabe Lolita, but I do enjoy the double effect of the print and pleats- I'm all for tactile things really..
Dianna: in my head, pleats=school uniform. But I do like them on shirts, and this has been coming on for a while..
ENC: I've come to like them too :)
Susie: I kind of like how they can be dramatic and sober at the same time..too bad I don't make much sense..
Indie: I reckon they wouldn't flatter me all that much either, but I do like them.
Yumiko: funnily, I've also liked the idea of wearing a loose sailor top for a while now. But sailor tops do sound better than the ones tha I had for a uniform- it made everyone look like a nurse! Not a good look, IMO.
Elisabeth: I think it's partly because they're so strongly associated with schoolgirls (and from there on to creepy Lolita connotations)..they do get a bit of a bad rap. Though I do like the freedom of movement that the pleats allow me..
Luxe: It's definitely a bit love/hate for me, but you're right- some part of me does want to revert, though God forbid I should look the way I did when I was sixteen. And thanks for adding me to your blogroll!
pleated skirts can look very good if worn with something that isn't uniformic, as you said. i'd avoid the dark blue colour because then it really looks like a school uniform.
the ones ypou present here look really cool. I like pleated skirt but I don't wear them so often
